Dantewada

Dantewada or the South Bastar is a district in the State of Chhattisgarh. This district is situated at Latitude 18° 46' 48" N to 19° 28' 30" N and Longitude 80° 15' 42" E to 81° 58' 43" E. Borders of the District are : East - Orissa State, West - Maharashtra State, South - Andhra Pradesh State and North - District Bastar. The total geographical Area of this district is 10,238.99 Sq.Km.

The present Dantewada district has come into existence in 1998. Previously it was a Tehsil of Bastar district before it was divided into three - Kanker, Bastar, and Dantewada.

A place known for the oldest inhabitance of India holding its own world without losing its way of life, its virtues, its dancing, its songs, its folklore, its mirth and laughter, Dantewada derives its name from the capital town of the district, named after the presiding deity of the town 'Ma Danteshwari'.
